How to Make Money Using Podcasts

from:

Deb St. George, on How to Make Money Using Podcasts in your Podcasting Guide From Life-Hosting.com

As a business, you can use your podcast to draw listeners and thereby customers to your company and target your podcast messages to convert into sales. You could also choose to use your podcast as a way to make money. Consider the following tips to make money through podcasting.

Offer expert advice: If you know how to record, edit, add music and video to a podcast start offering your services exclusively to small businesses. For professional voice coaches and voice actors there are plenty of opportunities. Vocal coaches can help a business develop the best in-house talent for their podcast, professional voice actors are an alternative for small businesses with limited time and no one with the right voice to represent the business. Bottom-line is there are lost of opportunities for those able to consult on or produce any element of a podcast.

Find podcast sponsors: Companies may be willing to provide sponsorship if your podcast is good enough and you have built a loyal following among your audience For very successful podcast large corporations may be willing to be your major sponsors but using several minor sponsors is also a popular way of generating revenue from podcasting.

The best way to achieve sponsorship that won't turn off your listeners is by looking for sponsors that provide something of value to the theme of your podcast. For example a podcast catering to the working mom, might look for sponsorship by companies that pride themselves on offering services needed by mothers and their children. Build up the number of listeners to your audiocast and generate buzz to boost your profile and get sponsors to take notice. Sponsors may also be willing to provide freebies that you can use to hold contest and create a larger audience following.

Add advertisements: Advertisements can be embedded to play at the beginning or end of your podcast. Just like Radio and TV however there is a possibility that your listeners will be turned off by the advertisement, keep your advertisements relevant to your podcast topic if possible.

Self-advertising: If your podcast represents your business, it’s a good idea to include product demos and information on products and services you currently offer. Featuring customer testimonials from loyal customers and upselling your product can convince listeners its worth investing in. As long as you don't browbeat or exclusively attempt to sell your own products, listeners won't object.

Subscription services: Individuals who operate in a specific niche may want to consider charging listeners for downloading their podcast. Generally, though small businesses would want to offer their information for free in order to attract the widest possible audience.

Raking in hundreds of dollars a month through your podcast will not happen overnight. To even get to the point where your podcast can get commercial sponsorship at least 6 months or even a year of steady podcasting is typically needed. To get to the point where your podcast can help cover your bills focus on providing relevant content that will keep your listeners coming back and encourage them to spread the word.
